The Wrangler

Wrangling in the wild data and information into a beautiful and simple design.

Information can feel like a stampede, but I’ve got the lasso. I tame chaos into designs that capture attention and make sense. Through tactile textures, I turn intimidating problems into approachable solutions—reminding viewers there's a human touch behind it all.

Unpacking giant clusters of information into digestible designs.

When a client floods you with requests where do you even being? Lucky for me, my little brain cells sift through the chaos, spotlight the essentials, and toss out the noise—turning the mess into clear and impactful design.

With 3D/2D textures, I play with depth and simplicity to show that behind every clean design is a lot of hard work.

DEVELOPMENT

Design Iterations

As the superpower focuses on the simplification, beauty, and organization of the data. I wrestled a lot with honing in on the design.

In the early stages, the "mess" of data was not messy enough. In contrast, my "cleaned up" data wasn't clean and looked unpolished.

I fought to clear up the lack in clarity and sophistication by exaggerating features and experimenting with different compositions and textures.

Topology / Textures

Referencing a variety of graphs, charts, and data, I made simple models which gave me ample time to experiment with the texturing.

The 2D textures were meant to be approachable yet sophisticated to represent Stash as a job recruiting site. They are elevated yet made friendly to all motion graphics/VFX artists.

If I were to do this project again I would take a different approach in texturing, referencing more of Stash’s usual style of hyperrealistic dramatic 3D renderings—I wanted to challenge myself with making toonshader sophisticated but I think it would have been better suited for Stash if it were a different render style.

Mooootion

15 seconds to convey a whole superpower was a challenge because I wanted to say so much! This project disciplined me to tighten up my keyframes and I went through many passes and feedback from peers to really see if my motion was communicating the right message.

Analyzing many timelapse videos and researching data charts took a large portion of the animation planning. The mini-me's needed to be present but not take the whole show of the organization of data hence their small scale (I'm not that small I swear).

I had animated my first few passes with type in the introduction but twas not allowed and had to make major changes--lesson learned to read carefully!
