Within the palace walls, power shifts like falling dominos. A single misstep setting an unstoppable chain in motion. Whispers and shifting scrolls, silhouettes and scattered pawns, who can stop this never-ending gears of fate?
Inspired by the political tensions and mysteries of Korean history. The animation highlights the beauty and darkness that comes with power.
Each object was modelled after historical pieces of the time period. Go being a tool for sharpening the mind and a form of mental sparring/even diplomatic engagement.
The given specs created rigid guidelines for timing, pacing, and overall design of the animation. Square box, 450 frames, and a tight deadline.
With the challenge of heavy renders, AOVs were a big part of the process from the beginning. To animate the lights, create the silhouettes, and manipulate the shadows, a combination of Ae, Nuke, and C4D were used.
The silhouette/shadows were created in Ae which was later used as a texture in C4D.
The monochrome look was an addition that was necessary to fit the concept of mystery.
